I'm taking a shot at this whole blogging thing because I have so much to say about the things I've seen over the past week in the tents at Bryant Park and all over the city. That's me in the huge trousers. I am 20 years old and as a self-proclaimed fashionista, I am often disappointed at the lack of media out there directed towards my demographic. I am lucky enough to have the chance to tag a long with a friend to fashion week in nyc, but others my age are not so fortunate. I wanted to share what it's like to be behind the scenes, backstage and standing next to Marc Jacobs (my favorite) at his after-party at the Grammercy Park hotel.
I arrived on September 8, threw on my new Max Azria cashmere romper and went to work. Now, let me clarify, when I say "work" I mean, chasing my friend around as she interviews celebs, designers and models backstage and in the front row. I get to shlepp the bags, the Dailys (a magazine published each day of Fashion Week), the purse, the spare shoes, the make-up kit etc. in exchange for backstage pass into the shows and parties all week. Not bad, right? First up was Nicole Miller. I've never been a huge fan but I went in with an open mind (plus I got to sit front row next to Nicky Hilton, who smelled legendary by the way). I was pleasantly surprised to find a few pieces that made me yearn for the summer months once again. First a terrocatta silk off the shoulder romper (I love rompers, if you haven't noticed) and a blousey white silk jacket which I could picture going so well with every single thousand pairs of my skinny jeans, which I am almost ready to trade in for the widest leg trousers I can find.

That was pretty much day one, since my friend and I pooped out early. The tents are so exciting. It's crowded and loud and full of trends from around the world. Half the fun is checking out what people are wearing off the runways. All I want to do is run up to people and ask what they're wearing and where they got it, but in an effort to play it cool, I mostly just watch and learn. A great and oh-so-wearable trend for fall that I saw every place I went, was the jumper. Women of all ages were sporting them with simple tee's underneath and some with leggings. If you're planning on hoping on the leggings bandwagon for fall, I say save the cropped legging for jazzercise and make sure you are doing it as Marc would have it, long long leggings covered with thick socks and even leg warmers. Full length leggings elongate the bod, where as cropped cut you off at the calf. Boooooring. Backstage is a great place to trend watch because those models really get "effortless chic" better than anyone I've ever seen. The model uniform is pretty standard, but its the details that make each one of those skinny minnie's stand out in their own way. Each one wore their skinny jeans, ballet flats and massive wait-listed fall handbag with such unkempt grace I wanted to vom looking at my ensemble, wishing I hadnt tried so hard. Must sleep. More on fashion tomorrow.
