sad week.

unfortunately will not be attending fashion week in ny this season. the only thing that has my spirits brightened is that i will not be missing my man marc's show, at least marc by marc because he is literally taking his show on the road. turns out marc is showing the marc by marc line in london for the opening of his store. although i will not be there in the flesh, i am looking forward to fall 07 collections. i have been feeling a bit uninspired by the current trends, but i am hopeful for fall. i'm also interested to see the emerging faces on the runways. its looks like the girls over at the marilyn agency are once again the hippest. my eyes are plastered to COACD everyday. more after the shows!

DKNY

i could not believe my eyes at the dkny spring/summer show. the collection was incredible. i went in with no expectations becuase i have never been a huge fan of the line, although the donna karan collection is amazing but not exactly in my budget. the line was all about the tribes of new york. the pieces ranged from signature logo jerseys to polished evening wear. i loved just about everything. this look is one of my favorites (probably because stam is wearing it) i love the shoes especially. can't wait to see it in stores, and find out if its as good on me as it was on the runway. photo from style.com

i spy...

i was inspired to tell this story because i love pat mcgrath. so there you go. basically if youre not a celebrity or instantly recognizable face, the security at the tents in nyc can be pretty harsh. one afternoon i was chasing my friend around as she was about to cover the de la renta show when i got lost. long story short, after arguing with the security gaurd for five minutes i decided i wasnt getting back in the tents and i should probably just sit my ass down somewhere. so i did just that. i sat outside of the back enterance where the models, designers, celebs etc. enter the shows. pretty much the best seat in town during fashion week. after the show let out, i drooled as gemma, emina and the gang exited looking so radiant, still in hair and makeup. they lit up their cigs and were whisked off into their chauffered cars. so glam. finally, mr.de la renta came out followed by kayne west and then, superstar pat mcgrath. i watched her as she dragged her huge black back (filled with what i can only imagine was the secret to eternal beauty). she looked so sophisticated in all black and her signature black headband. i could barely unhinge myself from the park chair, but i did. i nosily, evesdropped as she said "i'm exhausted" with a laugh. i know this isn't really a story, its just something that happened but i felt i should share it incase there is someone out there who adores this woman as i do.

once again, Chloe.

Chloe is it again for me this season. So you might as well just kill yourself if youre not going to be wearing this for spring. Kidding, of course. Just get yourself to your favorite vintage shop and stock up on 60's minis. They are just the thing to pair with sweet mary jane flats or tough combat boots from fall. I usually look to Chloe for hair and makeup inspiration as well. Last season a MAC blush called "hush" was used and it is perfect. Flattering on everyone. I cant wait to find out what Charlotte Tilbury has favored for spring. She is fantastic and she always describes the look as "handsome" which I love. Mmmm Chloe...

Simply the Best.

My love for Marc Jacobs began five years ago with the purchase of a military inspired denim jacket (which continues to be a wardrobe staple of mine). This man has been such an inspiration to me, not only in the way I dress, but the way I think about how to dress. If that makes sense...whatever. His spring collection was absolutely no different. Andre Leon Talley completely took the words right out of my brain, if I had been wise enough to put them so eloquently by saying that they show was, "One of the most extraordinary moments in the career of Marc Jacobs." He goes on to describe the show in words I never could have chosen: "I'm very rarely left in a moment of such awe...of total abandonment of magic. The idea of a heel that looks like a diamond. The magic of the handbags-the fantasy of having bubblegum jewels-or real ones-whatever is your fantasy. Totally blown away brilliance." The show itself was a transportation to another world, one less complicated, where hats with huge flowers are endearing, not obnoxious. In typical Marc fashion, the show started an hour late, which left me wishing I had sacrificed fashion for comfort and not worn three inch heels. As we waited all crunched together on the bleachers, Jared Leto became restless. He decided the runway, (which was filled with little blue candy mints wrapped in plastic which glittered in the light resembling the shinniest pond ever in life), was going to be a fun game. He started throwing the mints into the crowd, one thing lead to another and the next thing I knew I was on the runway covered in mints! Just kidding, he threw one my way and ate it. End of story. When the show finally started, the audience was so still. It was like if anyone moved, it would all disappear. I'm not much for accessories, but when I saw the glittering mesh headbands I knew I was going to be headed to the craft store. I love them. A whole lot. After the show I caught a glimpse of Anna Wintour's glowing face as she rushed backstage, I'm sure to tell Marc of his brilliance.
The after party was held a few blocks down at the Grammercy Park Hotel. I found myself desperate to find a place to sit to rest my tired feet. Once I finally swerved past Sophia Coppola, Ashley Olsen, Dita Von Teese etc, I found a seat outside near the television that was playing the video of the show. As I watched the show, marveling at the little details I had missed from my backrow standing position, I heard excited high pitched screams next to me. A young Japanese man and woman stood next to me excitedly clapping and screaming as they watched each look come down the runway on the screen. I couldn't believe it. I thought they must be what I would look like if I weren't afraid to make a fool of myself in front of Gemma Ward. I was so thrilled to see that they were as excited as I was about the show. I smiled at them and the young man informed me that they were the pattern makers! They had poured hours and hours into each garment and were so thrilled to see the finish product. Rightly so. I quizzed them about the process they go through. They said the most frustrating part was that they would begin work two months prior to the show but by time they were nearly finished Marc had changed his mind. Ever the perfectionist. I loved talking to them and hearing their stories. Take a look at the detail shots of the show on style.com and tell me these clothes aren't worth every penny.

Agnyess Deyn

This girl's got it. Just look at that FACE! Insane right? Well, prepare yourselves because she will be all over the place by next season. She walked for the big one's this season in nyc, including Zac Posen, Proenza Schouler, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui etc. There's something about her that reminds me of a hip kid I may have seen on the street, and I like that. She's approachable and fresh. So watch out for Agnyess. Her and Irina may just take over the world. If you're reading this, it probably means you love fashion so you should also check out my fave blog called The Sartorialist. He's in Milan right now snapping the best shots of men and women off the runway. Also look at the Gucci collection on style.com. Have fun!

Wear This.

I decided instead of going chronologically, it would be more fun to talk about whatever I wanted. So I want to talk about this look from Proenza Schouler's spring collection. If you're anything like me, now is not the time you want to feel pretty in your clothes. After seeing the fall collections from Prada, Marc Jacobs and John Galliano etc., I want to be a warrior. I want to wear combat boots and walk into the world like a soldier. So naturally when it came time for spring, I wasn't exactly thrilled to see prints and delicate cocktail attire. But Proenza hit the mark for me. Its got attitude and who doesn't want to wear socks with their open toes? So keep cinching those waists ladies and dont throw away your bubble gum pink lip gloss if you want to be a Proenza girl for spring. I know I do.
